New board boasts a combined 100+ years of construction industry experience.

August 31, 2026 – The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is proud to introduce its newly installed National Board and Regional Directors for the 2026-2027 term. With experience, drive, and a shared commitment to strengthening and amplifying the success of women in the construction industry these leaders are determined to expand NAWIC's impact.

"My vision for this year is simple: to lead with purpose, serve with compassion, and create opportunities for every member to feel connected, valued, and empowered," says President Jodi Wiemerslage. "When we invest in one another, we strengthen not only our association but the future of our industry." 

She added, "My theme this year is Strong Foundations. Strong Future. It reflects what I believe most deeply about our industry and our organization. When we invest in people, strengthen our connections, and build with intention today, we create the foundation for a stronger future for NAWIC, our members, and the construction industry as a whole."

Newly elected Northeast Regional Director, Ambre Schaffer, said, "Some of the most rewarding opportunities in my career have come through leadership. Whether in the workplace or through NAWIC, leadership challenges us to think bigger, serve others, and create opportunities for those around us to succeed. The greatest impact of leadership isn't measured by the title you hold—it's measured by the leaders you help develop along the way." 

The new National Board includes:

• Shawna Alvarado, CEO, O'Donnell Plastering Inc., Santa Clara, CA, President-Elect  

• Jillian Penkin, Penkin Consulting, LLC, Buffalo Niagara, NY, Northeast Region, Vice President    

• Carla Klatt, LEED GA, The Lathrop Company, Project Manager, Toledo, OH, Secretary 

• Charris Sonne-Phinney, CRIS, Commercial Construction Insurance Account Manager
  Anchor Insurance & Surety, Inc., Portland, OR, Treasurer  

• Rita Brown, Owner, BCC+, Birmingham, MI, and Transportation Commissioner, State of MI, will serve as Immediate Past President   

• Catherine Schoenenberger, President, Stay Safe Traffic Products, Inc., Parliamentarian. 

• Sheronda L. Carr, Chief Executive Officer, NAWIC, Fort Worth, TX.  

NAWIC is also pleased to announce the newly elected Regional Directors: 

• LuJuan Counts, Senior Director Design and Construction Services, Wayne State University, North Central Region   

• Ambre Schaffer, Director of Membership ABC Greater Baltimre, Northeast Region

These dedicated leaders bring a diverse range of skills and experiences to their roles, and NAWIC looks forward to their contributions in advancing the organization's goals and supporting its members.
